STOLEN PICK-UP TRUCK RECOVERED

(MUNICIPALITY OF MEAFORD, ON) - On August 26, 2017 at approximately 5:02 a.m. Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated the theft of a 2009 Ford F350 diesel pick-up truck from a residence on Parker Street West in the Municipality of Meaford.

The truck was recovered the same morning on Victoria Street in Meaford. A Dewalt air compressor and two roofing nail guns were stolen from the box of the truck.

At the time of the theft, the truck was unlocked with the keys inside. Police remind residents to keep their vehicles locked and keep valuables out of plain view.

THEFT OF TOOLS

(MUNICIPALITY OF GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) - On August 27, 2017 Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a theft report. Sometime between 11:00 p.m. on August 26th and 7:50 a.m. on August 27th, unknown person(s) forcibly entered a shed located at Queen Street A in the Municipality of Grey Highlands.

A chainsaw, torque wrenches, router and a tackle box were removed from the shed. In addition, the culprit(s) removed a bag of tools from the box of the victim's pick-up truck.

DRIVER CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED

(MUNICIPALITY OF MEAFORD, ON) - On August 24, 2017 at approximately 12:09 a.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single vehicle collision on Pearson Street in the Municipality of Meaford.

The driver of a 2013 Ford Focus, carrying two 19-year old male passengers, failed to negotiate a sharp curve in the area of Pearson Street and Nelson Street. The vehicle mounted a curb and travelled across the front lawn of an apartment complex. The vehicle narrowly missed a hydro pole and came to rest within inches of the building.

The driver had been drinking alcohol. He was arrested and transported to the Chatsworth OPP Detachment for breath tests which he failed.

19-year old Liam Connor DINNER of Ottawa, Ontario was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and for having more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in his blood. He was also charged for being a young driver with a blood alcohol content above zero under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

His driver's licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days. He is scheduled to appear in court in Owen Sound on September 14, 2017.

There were no injuries reported.

MULTIPLE FATAL COLLISION - HWY. 6 NEAR MILLER LAKE RD.

(NORTHERN BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) - On August 26, 2017 at approximately 7:53 p.m., Bruce Peninsula Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) together with the Northern Bruce Fire Department and the Bruce County Paramedic Services (EMS) responded to a head on collision between two vehicles on Hwy. 6 between Lindsay Road 30 and Miller Lake Rd in Norther Bruce Peninsula.

Initial investigation by OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) reveals that a passenger vehicle, a Dodge Charger, was being driven erratically, southbound on Highway 6 when the driver collided head-on with a northbound sports utility vehicle (SUV). The impact caused the SUV to become engulfed in fire.

The driver of the Dodge Charger, a 30-year old male from Mississauga, was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead. He has been identified as Jim THOMAS JOHNY. The passengers inside the vehicle have been identified as 42-year old Shovani PATHAK of Brampton; 31-year old Sheena VARMA of Brampton; 24-year old Arun SADANA of Mississauga, and 39-year old Ravinder KALSI of Brampton, who remains in critical condition.

Bruce Peninsula OPP continue to investigation the collision with the assistance of the OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Unit (TTCI).

A section of Hwy. 6 was closed for several hours. It is now open to traffic.

The investigation is in its early stages.

RECOVERED STOLEN VEHICLE

(MUNICIPALITY OF GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) - On August 23, 2017 at approximately 9:17 a.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a burned out vehicle abandoned at the intersection of Road 49 and Centre Line A in the Municipality of Grey Highlands.

Investigation revealed that the vehicle, a 2010 Ford F150XL pick-up truck, had been reported stolen from a residence in Melanchthon Township around 5:45 a.m. on August 23, 2017. Dufferin County OPP was notified.

BAIL VIOLATIONS

(MUNICIPALITY OF GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) - A male who was arrested and held for a bail hearing on August 18, 2017 after committing an assault on his elderly grandmother is back in custody after violating conditions of his release.

On August 22, 2017 at approximately 4:06 p.m. Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received information that the male had been sitting in a lawn chair across the road from the victim's residence in the Municipality of Grey Highlands. Conditions of his release included not to be within 100 metres of the victim's residence and not to buy, possess or consume alcohol.

The 47-year old male, who resides in Clearview Township, was arrested and held in custody pending a bail hearing scheduled for August 23, 2017. He faces three counts of breach of recognizance.

HISTORICAL SEXUAL ASSAULT INVESTIGATION

(MUNICIPALITY OF MEAFORD, ON) - The Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Crime Unit investigated a historical sexual assault. The investigation commenced in October 2016. Through the course of the investigation, it has been determined that between December 1, 2007 and December 31, 2007, alleged sexual related offences against a minor took place at a residence on Sykes Street North in the Municipality of Meaford.

As a result of the ongoing investigation, a warrant was issued for the arrest of 45-year old David William BENSON, of no fixed address. BENSON, formerly of Meaford, is charged with sexual assault and invitation to sexual touching - person under the age of fourteen years.

On August 23, 2017, David William BENSON, was arrested in the city of Toronto by members of the OPP West Region Support Unit and turned over to members of the Grey County OPP Crime Unit. A bail hearing was scheduled for August 24, 2017 in Owen Sound.
