SUSPICIOUS MALE IDENTIFIED

(TOWNSHIP OF SOUTHGATE, ON) - On June 12, 2017 at approximately 1:48 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a suspicious male in the area of Egremont Community School located on Grey Road 109 in the Township of Southgate.

The suspect was described as being a Caucasian male in his twenties, 5'9" tall, medium build, black medium length hair and wearing a bright blue shirt. He appeared to be taking pictures of students from a distance.

Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has spoken to the 26-year old Southgate man. No offences have been committed and there is no concern for public safety.

POLICE INVESTIGATING BREAK-IN

(HURON TWP, ON) - On June 12, 2017 at 7:21 p.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a theft report from a residence in the 900 block of Concession 10 in Huron Township. Sometime between 10:00 p.m. on June 11, 2017 and 6:00 p.m. on June 12, 2017, a detached shed on the property was entered.

The list of stolen items includes 2 Pioneer subwoofers, Browning hunting bow, Makita grinder, John Deere wrench set, Wayne Gretzky picture, 32" TV and an X-box gaming system. The value of the stolen property is estimated to be more than $4,400.

OPP CHARGE TWO MEMBERS WITH CRIMINAL OFFENCES

(ORILLIA, ON) - The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Professional Standards Bureau (PSB) has charged two OPP officers with criminal offences in relation to an incident that occurred in April 2011.

The incident involved the aftermath when off-road vehicles collided in Cape Croker First Nation jurisdiction resulting in serious injuries being sustained by one individual. Information has since been provided to police that prompted an investigation into potential wrongdoing which commenced in May of 2017.

Charged with one count each of Breach of Trust (sec. 122) and Obstruct Justice (sec. 139.2) contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada are:

Staff Sgt. Wayne THOMPSON - Detachment Commander Bruce Peninsula OPP, who has 29 years of service; and,

A/Staff Sgt. Kevin MUIR, Operations Manager Grey County OPP, who has 17 years of service.

The incident occurred while both members were off-duty. Both accused are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on August 10, 2017. Both have been suspended with pay as per the requirements of the Police Services Act.

The OPP will not provide further comment to protect the integrity of the ongoing court process and any disciplinary matters that may ensue.

VEHICLE STOLEN DURING BREAK AND ENTER

(TOWN OF MINTO, ON) - On Sunday June 11, 2017 at approximately 12:30 a.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an alarm at a business on Arthur Street west, Harriston.

On arrival police found that suspect(s) had broken a window, stole a set of keys and left a side door wide open. A 2009 Nissan Murano was also missing however it was recovered later that morning on 11th Line, west of Harriston.

Police are currently examining evidence gathered from the scene and are asking any person with information regarding this to contact the Wellington County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

OPP DRUG WARRANT EXECUTED

(TOWNSHIP OF SOUTHGATE, ON) - On June 8, 2017, the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with assistance of the Wellington County Community Street Crime Unit, the West Region Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) and the Emergency Response Team (ERT), executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant at a property on Sligo Road East in the Township of Southgate (east of Mount Forest).

As a result of the execution of the search warrant, police seized cannabis marijuana, cannabis resin, and methamphetamine. Police also seized offence related property, stolen property and three firearms.

56-year old Alan Leslie SPAHR, of the Township of Southgate, was arrested and charged with the following offences:

Possession of methamphetamine
Possession of cannabis marijuana
Possession of cannabis resin
Unauthorized Possession of Firearm (x3)
Careless Storage of Firearm (x3)

46-year old Tracey Lynn REID, of the Township of Southgate, was arrested and charged with the following offences:
Possession of methamphetamine
Possession of cannabis marijuana
Possession of cannabis resin
Unauthorized Possession of Firearm (x3)
Careless Storage of Firearm (x3)
Breach of Probation (x3) (Possession of Firearm)

59-year old Ronald Edward MCCANNELL, of the Township of Southgate, was arrested and charged with the following offences:
Possession of methamphetamine
Possession of cannabis marijuana
Possession of cannabis resin
Production of Marijuana
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

Breach of Probation (x2).

All three accused are scheduled to appear in court in Owen Sound on July 20, 2017.

TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO OPEN LIQUOR CHARGE

(KINLOSS TWP, ON) - On June 14, 2017 at 11:56 p.m., a South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer on patrol along Bruce County Road 1 in Kinloss Township stopped a Red Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck. The officer found open alcohol in the truck. The driver, a 19-year-old Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh teen, was charged for drive with open alcohol.

IMPAIRED BOATER FACING DAY IN COURT

(LAKE ROSALIND, ON) - On June 11, 2017, members of the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) marine unit were patrolling the waters of Lake Rosalind when they stopped to conduct a vessel check. The operator was found to be impaired.

Fifty-year-old Wayne COWTAN of Brockton was charged with impaired operation, operate over 80 milligrams, operate vessel with open alcohol and 4 safety violations under the Canada Shipping Act - Small Vessel Regulations. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 12, 2017 to answer to the charges.

MALE FACING MULTIPLE CHARGES

(TOWNSHIP OF GEORGIAN BLUFFS, ON) - On June 4, 2017 at approximately 11:16 a.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a break in that had occurred at a building undergoing renovations on Hwy. 21 in the Township of Georgian Bluffs. The suspect, who was identified, was observed fleeing from the scene on foot.

The suspect was arrested later that afternoon in Bruce Peninsula. He was transported to the Chatsworth OPP Detachment. While in custody, he caused damage to a cell and assaulted police. There were no injuries reported.

The accused, a 19-year old male from Brockton, was taken to hospital for assessment under the Mental Health Act.

A warrant has been issued for his arrest upon release from hospital. He is charged with break and enter; possession of stolen property over $5,000; and assault police.
