Grey Bruce County OPP Reports - Apr. 18, 2017

DESIGNATED DRIVER IMPAIRED

(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST GREY, ON) - On April 16, 2017 at approximately 2:05 a.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on a 2006 Ford Mustang on Grey Rd. 4, east of Sideroad 10, within the Municipality of West Grey, after it had overtaken the cruiser. Both vehicles were travelling westbound.

Police detected an odour of alcohol inside the vehicle which was occupied by the driver and a sleeping passenger. The driver advised the officer that he was the designated driver. The driver registered a "fail" on the roadside approved breath screening device and was subsequently transported to the Markdale OPP Detachment for further breath tests which indicated his blood alcohol content was over 80 milligrams.

29-year old Martin KUUSKNE, of Toronto, was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in his system.

His licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for seven days. He is scheduled to appear in court in Owen Sound on May 18, 2017.

INJURED FEMALE RESCUED AFTER FALLING AT INGLIS FALLS

(TOWNSHIP OF GEORGIAN BLUFFS, ON) - On Saturday, April 15 at approximately 8:37 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a female injured as a result of falling at Inglis Falls located in the Township of Georgian Bluffs.

The victim had attended the East embankment of the Falls with three companions to watch the sunset when she lost her footing and fell approximately 25 feet to the rocks below.

The victim, a 20-year old woman from the Township of Chatsworth, was rescued by the Inter-Township Fire Department and was air-lifted to a London Hospital with serious injuries.

She was discharged from hospital on April 16, 2017.

POLICE INVESTIGATING OVERNIGHT THEFT

(HURON TWP, ON) - On April 12, 2017 at 8:04 a.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a theft report from a residence along Side road 10 in Huron Township. Between 12:30 a.m. on April 12, 2017 and 5:30 a.m. on April 12, 2017, a detached shed was entered. The list of stolen property includes a Red Honda CRF150 dirt bike, 3 Yellow Dewalt cordless drills, 2 Yellow Dewalt drills, a Red Snap-on cordless drill and a Yellow Dewalt reciprocating saw. The value of the stolen property is estimated to be more $2,500.

RACING CHARGE

(TOWNSHIP OF PILKINGTON, ON) - On April 12, 2017 at approximately 3:40 p.m., a Wellington County OPP officer was monitoring traffic on County Road 18 near Third Line in the Township of Pilkington. The officer observed a male driving a 2009 Volkswagon travelling at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar at approximately 135 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

25-year-old Benjamin FRICK of Waterloo has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and will appear in Guelph Provincial Court on June7, 2017. His driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.

POLICE LOOKING FOR STOLEN ATV

(TEESWATER, ON) - On April 11, 2017 at 8:31 p.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a theft report from a residence along Union Street in Teeswater. Sometime between 8:00 a.m. on April 11, 2017 and 8:00 p.m. on April 11, 2017, a Dark Green Arctic Cat TRV 500 All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) was taken from the property. The ATV doesn't have a licence plate, but the serial number is on file with police. There is no estimate on the value of the stolen ATV available at this time.

(TOWNSHIP OF NICHOL, ON) - On April 15, 2017 at approximately 1:40 a.m., a Wellington County OPP officer was monitoring traffic on Highway 6 between Sideroad 15 and Sideroad 18 in the Township of Nichol. The officer observed a male driving a 2017 Subaru travelling at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar at 135 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

20-year-old Thomas HORVATH of Blandford-Blenheim Twp. has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and will appear in Guelph Provincial Court on May 17, 2017.His driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.

THEFT OF DUMP TRAILER

(TOWNSHIP OF GEORGIAN BLUFFS, ON) - On April 12, 2017 at approximately 5:57 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a stolen black, 2013 Canada 612 dump trailer, VIN # 2CPUSC2D7DA019154; valued at $6,500 from a commercial parking lot located on Hwy. 6 & 21 in the Township of Georgian Bluffs. The theft occurred sometime after 1:00 p.m. on April 10th.
