IMPAIRED DRIVER HELD FOR BAIL-VEHICLE IMPOUNDED

(CHATSWORTH, ON) - On February 28, 2017 at 7:38 p.m., the Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested a male driver who was operating a 2002 Dodge pick-up truck while impaired on 6 highway, in the Township of Chatsworth.

Upon speaking with the driver, police found the driver had been drinking alcohol. The driver was transported to the Chatsworth OPP Detachment for breath tests, in which he failed.

The driver, 55-year-old, Howard Mark SEWELL, of the Township of Chatsworth, was charged with impaired driving, over 80 milligrams, drive disqualified x 2 and having open liquor. Police seized and impounded the vehicle for 45 days. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing scheduled on March 1, 2017.

PARKING LOT RAGE RESULTS IN CHARGES

(TOWNSHIP OF GEORGIAN BLUFFS, ON) - On February 16, 2017, at approximately 2:28 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an altercation in the parking lot of Home Hardware located on Hwy. 6 & 21 on the Sunset Strip in the Township of Georgian Bluffs which resulted in the arrest of a Kincardine man.

The victim, a 33-year old male from the Township of Georgian Bluffs, accompanied by his wife and children, were inside their parked vehicle when a Chevrolet Astro van pulled in and parked beside them.

The driver of the Astro van exited his vehicle and began yelling at the victim. The suspect then reached into the vehicle and began grabbing at the victim's hat. The suspect damaged both windshield wiper blades on the victim's vehicle, a Honda Odyssey van, before heading into the store with his wife.

68-year old Lawrence HUTCHINSON of Kincardine was arrested at the scene. He was charged with assault and mischief under $5,000.

He is scheduled to appear in court on March 3, 2017 in Owen Sound.

R.I.D.E. PROGRAM - DRIVER CHARGED OVER 80MG

(MUNICIPALITY OF MEAFORD, ON) - On February 19, 2017 at approximately 4:12 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting a R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program at the intersection of 3rd Line and 4th Sideroad in the Municipality of Meaford.

A 2015 Nissan Pathfinder vehicle had stopped at the R.I.D.E. checkpoint. Officer found that the driver of the Nissan had been drinking alcohol. After failing a roadside breath test, the driver was arrested and transported to the Markdale OPP Detachment for further breath tests, which he failed.

58-year old Bradford HIGGINSON of Etobicoke, Ontario was charged with operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content exceeding 80 milligrams.

He is scheduled to appear in court in Owen Sound on March 2, 2019.

SNOWMOBILE OPERATOR AIR-LIFTED TO HOSPITAL

(MUNICIPALITY OF BROCKTON, ON) - On February 16, 2017, at approximately 5:56 p.m., South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an address on Concession 14 East in the Municipality of Brockton in response to an injured male as a result of a single snowmobile collision. The incident occurred on private property.

Investigation revealed the male was operating a Yamaha RX1 snowmobile across an open field when he launched the snowmobile off a row of round bales and was ejected.

The victim, a 25-year old Brockton man, was air-lifted to a London hospital with life-altering injuries.

The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigative Unit (TTCI) attended the scene and is assisting with the investigation.

STRUCTURE FIRE - BARN DESTROYED IN GREY HIGHLANDS

(MUNICIPALITY OF GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) - On February 20, 2017 at approximately 4:21 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a structure fire on Sideroad 25, west of Grey Rd. 7, in the Municipality of Grey Highlands.

The OPP, together with Grey County Paramedic Services (EMS) and firefighters from the Grey Highlands, Meaford and the Blue Mountains Fire Department, responded.

The barn, which housed tools, farm implements and various vehicles, was destroyed.

The cause of the fire was electrical in nature and not deemed suspicious.

There were no injuries reported.

DRIVER CHARGED WITH OVER 80 MG

(TOWNSHIP OF SOUTHGATE, ON) - On February 19, 2017, at approximately 8:23 a.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a 2004 Pontiac Montana van for speeding northbound on Grey Rd. 14 near Hopeville in the Township of Southgate.

The driver of the van had been drinking alcohol. After registering a "fail" on the roadside Approved Screening Device, he was arrested and transported to the Markdale OPP Detachment for further breath tests, which he failed.

Sukhdev Singh SIDHU, 55, of Cambridge, Ontario was charged with operating a motor vehicle with a blood/alcohol content level of over 80 mg. He was also issued a Part III Summons for speeding.

He is scheduled to appear in court in Owen Sound on March 9, 2017.
